[The new main station in Brno is to start operating in 2034, the estimate for the whole junction is 50 billion CZK.](https://zdopravy.cz/nove-hlavni-nadrazi-v-brne-ma-zacit-fungovat-v-roce-2034-odhad-na-cely-uzel-50-miliard-158005/)
> The basic part of the whole plan is to move the main station to the Svratka River in the area of the current lower station. The so-called River Option was approved by the region and the city in the past. The Railway Administration has a final planning permission for the construction of the new station. However, the Ministry of Transport has yet to approve the project, which is expected at the end of this year.
> “We have been waiting too long for the new station. I am glad that there has been a shift in the preparation of the whole project and it looks like it will actually start to be built in a few years,” said Jan Grolich, the governor of the South Moravian Region. The station will be built according to the design of the Dutch team of Benthem Crouwel Architects and West 8, which won the architectural competition. “At the same time, the architects together with other experts have already started working on a detailed study of the design of the entire area of the main station and its surroundings,” said the city’s mayor Markéta Vaňková.
Expected vs actual price… can’t wait for Brno to be in debt for 99+ years because “surprisingly” the prices/the time required/the effort tripled.
I thought it said “it should cost at least 2 euro” for a second
So 10B and 2040, got it. Anyone from Brno wants to weigh in? Seems like a massive overspend driven by vanity at best and a bottomless pit of corruption at worst.
2 billion just for a train station ? what are they going to build the train tracks with ?
I can’t say if €2bn or more is worth it, but Brno has easily the worst train station of any major city I’ve been to in Europe. It felt more like a halt than a station, and it really let down my overall impression of the city. It deserves better.
Has Rotterdam Centraal vibes. Don’t know enough about Brno to see if it actually fits the rest of the city.
Edit: seems like it’s the same architects that designed both, so kinda makes sense.
pics 4 looks suspiciously like Rotterdam Centraal
