  1. Hands up anyone who’s employer has given them anything like a 10% rise followed by a 8.5% rise the following year?

  2. This is actually quite a kick in the teeth for those struggling.

We’re a nation that is pandering to pensioners, the vast majority of whom, hoard the more wealth than any other demographic. The same generation that raped and pillaged the country and pulled the ladder up after them.

And before people start, I know there are pensioners who are poor and destitute, the rises should be going to those folk.

I’d also argue, how many policies have been enacted that benefit young people? I’d challenge anyone to name three.

  3. The amount you can earn before being taxed hasn’t increased. So the increase goes straight back to the Government. It just makes a good headline

  4. I remember when this Triple Lock came in. It was praised as a great thing, protecting the vulnerable old people who couldn’t afford heating & food. Everyone accepted it as a good thing when it wasn’t significant as we had low inflation.

Now its actually in effect, matching inflation and doing what it was intended to do, everyone is saying its a bad thing and needs replacing.

I would tweak it a bit, rises should be the average of the three measures of inflation & and remove the 2% fixed rise, and then expand that policy to all employees of “the state”. Nurses, Firemen/women/people, Police, Civil servants, & MPs. Its a good policy, it should be wider across the population

  5. Fuck the crab bucket mentality. I’m a young working class person and I’m happy that pensioners are receiving a proper increase in their pensions, nobody should be getting poorer at the end of their lives, and especially not in a country as rich as ours.

The truth is that everyone should be getting this kind of inflation-busting payrise, rather than those of us who aren’t complaining about others who are. We could afford it if we were brave enough to stand up to the big business interests, greedy landlords and speculators who have made a killing from the price hike crisis. But if we let them divide us by presenting this false narrative through the mass media, which they own and operate for their own ends? We’ll just keep getting poorer and more bitter forever.

  6. Thing is, the aged generation benefitting from this and buying up property, who lucked into final salary pensions and the like, will be the last to have such a nice litte earner. It simply isn’t sustainable with a growing elderly population. I know I won’t have any pensions or handouts from the Gov like the current demographic does. Nowhere near. You’re playing with finitie resources and numbers and forecasting. There’s only so much to go around and people who’ll be of a pensionable age in 20 years won’t get *anything* like this.
