Primary schools call for more funding as OECD report finds Ireland lagging behind neighbours

  1. The amount of money my gf spends on supplies etc is insane. If it wasn’t for Dealz o Mr Price it would be so much more.

  2. >OECD countries spend on average 1.5% of their GDP on primary education. Ireland spends 1.2%, leaving it in the bottom third of countries under both measures.

    That would suggest we’re doing very well given that our GDP is now basically double what it really is

  3. Primary school is too one paced. Its not good for stronger students but the teachers don’t have the resources to do much more than throw a few extra work sheets at them. There is absolutely no push to get the very best out kids, just get them all over a relatively low bar.
