I wouldn’t say _good_, as I oppose any monarchy or similar.
Bad for Austria? Hard to say, I don’t know what would’ve been the alternative.
Mediocre. Not as flashy and prestigious as the Bonapartes or Argeads, but also not total failures like Romanovs or Aisin-Gioro.

Could have been worse, could have been better.
Austria today is a great country to live in and we have some great scientific and cultural achievements to be proud of.
Considering that the Habsburgs are at least partly responsible for that I’d say they did a decent or even good job.
In some ways I think they were quite clever like their marrying policies to expand their power.
However, I am 100% pro republic and I think monarchies are a thing of the past, at least for Austria.
Being a Kaiserreich again sounds epic.
Being a larger country to matter in international politics again…
But what I’ve read… was’nt that fun. Especially because of the language issues back then with Austria-Hungary.
Depends on whom you look. Some were not too bad. 2 would have been great had they lived longer but most were mediocre at best or failures.
Why would I want 1 family getting all the riches (just look how rich the Windsors are) while they keep their people poor, mistreated and sent them to die for their goods/dreams of greatness. An absolute Monarchy is no different from a dictatorship a’la Adolf or Idi Amin or choose dictator of your liking. The BS of God annointed ruler is just that – BS

* constantly waging war for petty hereditary quibbles
* absolutist rule

I think it is not a question of bad or good. Austria had its good and bad times during the reign of the habsburg family and if you look at what remains of their legacy today you can say without a doubt that they were more than significant. But to generalise their whole rule wouldnt make any sense since they ruled for more than 700 years.
Still I believe that it would have changed a lot of things if we kept our royal family at least in a form of Constitutional Monarchy.
You seem to be very opinionated and ignorant from other comments. All im going to say is that monarchy sucks, they left some nice castles though.
