Exactly the same question was floated when it looked like FF would have to go in with FG.
Coalitions are the norm in Irish politics and have been for decades.
Sinn Féin needs to ask itself the uncomfortable question can it do business with Fianna Fáil.
Sinn Féin isn’t evn doing anything, in fact they’re being very quiet, and they still dominate the political chatter. Must be annoying for Mick.
FF will do business with anyone if it means staying in government and getting the ministerial pensions.
Not to mention the opportunities for FF-style corruption aren’t near as high if you’re in opposition as you can’t impact anything.
Course they can. They are a bunch of bullshit spouting frauds. If it was good for their pension they would work with al-Qaeda
Vote for FG, Get FF… Vote for SF, Get FF…
For the love of Christ. Hopefully SF don’t need them. The thoughts of them back in government is infuriating.
After it climbed into bed and gave FG a come hither look while patting the mattress next to them, I have no doubt FF can somehow lie back and think of Ireland when Mary Lou walks into the room.
The “republican party” doing business with the republican party?!
I think they will, but it would be a mistake. The parties are too alike – FF can distinguish itself from FG, but SF have just stolen their clothes (populist nationalism). I expect FG will also go into the election as the only one of the larger parties which can assure voters they will not work with SF, and this squeezes FF even more.
On the other hand, I’m pretty sure that something unpleasant will be unearthed about SF early in government, or they will make a big mistake. FF will have an opportunity to walk away at that point, but they will have to endure some awkward questions before that.
A better option for FF might be support for a minority SF coalition. Let SF build the coalition of themselves and the lunatic left they keep wishing for. FF can support what they want to support, and go into the next coalition with possible big gains on the back of disillusionment with SF as that government inevitably collapses.
I do hate when the media trys to pigeon hole polictical parties into forcing them to say something like ” we won’t work with SF” but then go after them if its even an option.
Surely we’d want all parties to be open and work with each other which many already do on cross party committiees. End of the day, most of politics is about comprimise and getting what you can signed off. If youve 10 innititives and you only secure 2, thats still a win. Come back in 4 years and try for the other 8.
You might see a split in FF. Some going to FG and some going to SF
They’ll power share with ISIS if it means keeping their seats.
Surely coalition governments are somewhat desirable, given the level of compromise they involve.
It won’t need to answer that question after the next round of elections. Fuck FF.
