Looking at getting a mortgage and it is now more expensive than my rent. Compared to where it was a year ago it is ridiculous. German economy is tanking too. Soft landing lads!
Remember that raising interest rates is an attack on workers – it is directly intended to increase unemployment, and pull down wages – and that this makes no sense when all of the price increases are from employer/corporate profiteering, and imports (principally energy imports).
Instead of choosing policy which attacks profiteering and alleviates the cost from imports – attacking workers has been chosen instead.
We were one of the final people to get a mortgage out of Ulster Bank before it closed and rates went bananas (we switched over from PTSB and got a 2.2% 5 year fixed) – what’s going on is mental. My brother bought a house and there was a delay of a few weeks because his solicitor ballsed something up and it in that time rates went up that much that their monthly repayments increased by a couple of hundred compared to what their original figure was.
