What is this little door? (Seen in Antwerpen)

  1. It’s a small door for small people. In the olden days Belgium had laws that small people weren’t allowed in the main door in case someone stepped on them and small wheelchair would need to be constructed, hence a small door was created. There is no need for them anymore since Spanish flu unfortunately eradicated “The kleintjes” they were known as, and have since become extinct. Their relative still exists here in Ireland knows as the leprechaun, commonly found near rainbows and chasing after Jennifer Anniston.

  2. Check it out on Instagram: verwonderende voetschrapers. An artist making beautiful tiny diaramas in these bootscrapers.

  3. just wonder how much poo there was on the streets then that you needed this as a solution. Many houses from those era have this at the frontdoor.

  4. It’s for cleaning your shoes from mud, because real belgians keep their shoes on inside the house 💪😤 🇧🇪 /s

  5. Nowadays an artist made little miniatures from it all over the city. I don’t know what it’s called but it’s really worth it. You can take an actual walking route with information on Spotify.

I will look for it and give you a link.
