>Ben Newman, from Hastings, said he was on the train when it pulled away after he got separated from his two boys.
>The family were travelling on a train from Gatwick Airport to Hastings on 28 July when one of their suitcases got stuck between two seats at Hampden Park station, Mr Newman said.
His children are 4 and 6. I can understand his suitcase getting stuck, but shouldn’t he have been with his children *while* they’re getting off the train? Children that young can easily hurt themselves getting off the train, or even fall between the gap.
Why didn’t he just talk to the driver on the intercom?
So… how is this the fault of the railway and if they have some blame, why is this news article worthy.
I regret that the kids had to go through, but an absent minded dad with a tendency to externalize all the blame will harm them more in the long run.
Without even reading the article, I’m going to have a bet with myself this was his fault.
You know what I do with my 4 yearold when we’re getting off the train? I always make sure shes next to me and tell her to wait, if i see she moves off without me I make sure to grab her first then go back for my bags because I always worry if she did get away from me something like this would happen.
I’d rather leave my bag on the train than my kid at the station
We’re starting to enter US levels of blame culture. It was an accident and sounds like the father hinself is not entirely devoid of responsibility here. No need for his big song and dance.
Sounds like he should have kept his kids with him, and then freed his bag. Don’t think the railway should be apologising at all
Yeah no, you don’t leave a 6 and a 4 year old on the platform alone even if you are getting suitcases. Stick together. Otherwise they could wander off, fall down the gap onto the track, anything. It only takes a second.
This dude is trying to blame anyone but himself.
On the rare occurrence we travelled by train when my kids were younger, this was my worst nightmare, so both kids hands were held when exiting the train.
I just can’t fathom how this irresponsible dad could let his children get of the train without him. And then to blame others!
It is an unfortunate series of events, but not the companies fault. These people shit themselves and wonder why they smell.
