  1. Small price to pay for unmatched drama 4 nights a week.

  2. What kind of audience do they suppose they’re capturing with their photos on whatever media they’re using?

  3. Dear RTE,

I can assure you that should you make the decision to get rid of this photographer, nobody will miss them nor notice their absence.

Fair City is an international embarrassment and in fact lowering the quality would likely only improve the enjoyment of the show.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Go Fuck Yourself.

  4. I’m not sure if people know how expensive it is to hire a professional photographer. For example, a professional wedding photographer charges like a minimum of €2000 a day up to €5000+ no matter how many photographs they’re hired to produce not to mention that they’ll probably take hundreds of shots to narrow it down to a final 16. And in this case the final shots will be used across print and online media to promote a show that while, in my opinion is absolutely shite, is one of the few things that actually turns a profit for the station. It’s not a job where some amateur can rock up with their iPhone and simply click off 16 shots over a few hours like it’s being made to sound. Fair City knocks out, what, four episodes a week, 51 weeks a year. Even at a minimum rate that’s gonna rack up some bill. I’m not sure that this one is the scandal it’s being made out to be…

  5. I can’t overstate how important it is that these accounts are finally being scrutinised.

  6. Depends I can see it being necessary depending on what the photos are used for and how many photos are actually taken. Like if the photographer is there working during every day of filming he deserves to be fairly paid.

  7. I got a what’s app message from bakhurst earlier, he said he’s a firm believer in archival integrity

  8. >The role was to require a 20-hour week from the successful candidate, over the course of three days, for 50 weeks of the year, to produce a minimum of 16 stills of the show.

20 hours of work a week, three days of work a week, the equivalent hours of two and a half 8 hour days, for 80k? In the top 10% of incomes in the country? For Fair fucking City?

There’s been people on the sub who have been saying that is a reasonable rate, but I can’t imagine them looking me in the eye and saying €60k for this position would be unreasonably low. This person will be laughing to the bank in between their vacations and side jobs on top of it.

  9. 240k contract given to some friend or family member of the staff no doubt

  10. Christ preserve us from half eejits in charge of spending.

  11. I think the ordinary person, and I’d include myself in this, is struggling to see why a photographer needs to be on hand 20 hours a week. I understand that you can’t just have someone snapping on an iPhone in their spare time, but I also don’t understand what is so special about this show that a few hours a year for taking photographs wouldn’t be good enough. It just looks like more wasteful spending.
