Keys to understanding the rising cost of electricity in Spain

  1. Simple price gouging. Same with gasoline in the US during the summer or heating oil in the winter. Or, the same reason disposable diapers are outrageously priced- they know they have you for a limited time…

We live in Madrid where there’s a “fixed rate” or, a median that the price for elec. never reaches below. That’s whether we’re in the apartment that month or not.

  2. Iberdrola are assholes. I buy my house June 1st. Get the utilities put in my name. Iberdrola send me a bill for May. I send them the sales contract showing I didn’t own the place then. They tell me all outstanding bills on the house are my responsibility and it’s in the small print of what I signed. Yeah cause I’m reading all 26 pages of shit, just for electricity. Fucking crooks.

The whole potencia bullshit too, charging for the *option* to use 5.5kw or whatever. Just charge for what we use, there’s no difference in the connection from them to me! If you change it to lower and accidentally go over, they cut the power. You lower it then later want to go back up, they want to inspect your property and ask for certificates you don’t have…. Twats
