On the face of it the excuse seems ridiculous but a blackout of some sort isn’t out of the question. I think a driving ban (on medical terms it should be given up if it hasn’t already?) and suspended sentence is actually probably about right. Or as good as we could hope for anyway.
Not uncommon, even the Police suffer from it…

Blackouts, anxiety and depression are all things that should to be reported to the DVLA so they can assess if you are fit to drive.
If she had no memory of the incident how did she know where to go when returning to the scene (before fleeing again)?
