I call bs. There no way 40% of staff called in sick, because if so where was the contingency plan kicking in? Prisons and other high security sites, even gig venues, have contingency planning in the event of being dangerously under staffed.
This sounds more like the prison(s) have been operating with a staffing deficiency for some time with unfilled shifts on the rota every day, just so another Tory minister can pass the buck and point at unfilled shifts rather than their obvious lack of planning in the prison service. Vote em out.
