Europe’s Fertility Problem

  1. The average number of births per woman in the European Union was 1.53 in 2021, according to the latest available data by Eurostat. This figure has remained fairly stable over the last ten years (1.54 in 2011), but is still not high enough for the European population to sustain itself – that is if migration is not taken into account. This is because the threshold for renewing a generation is estimated to be 2.05 children per woman.

  2. If you import millions of illegal migrants and give no incentives for your own citizens to have children, you have this problem and it will only get worse.

Hungary has solved it; their fertility rate is going up every single year. Children should be an economic benefit, not a burden.

  3. Goverments have made whatever it was in their hands to cut access to houses and to make job market access difficult to youths.
I guess they can say now: Work accomplished.

  4. Calling this a fertility problem is misleading. I’m not aware of a large proportion of the population struggling to produce children, they just chose not to.

  5. Based on this I estimate that by 2200 90% of europeans will be czech

  6. Any info on what testing group has been chosen for the statistics? I find it hard to believe that Sweden decreased, especially that much, ESPECIALLY in this period of time.

  7. No one is talking about romantic relationships being volatile nowadays. Let’s be honest, who wants to make babies if a relationship has few chances to last? I’m sure that long term couples without children are a minority. Simply, there are more and more single adults.

  8. I just dislike these posts because it’s not a fertility problem

  9. It’s not fertility that’s the problem. Modern Europeans could procreate if they wanted to. They do not want to. And that’s fine. It’s always fascinating how people speak about “overpopulation” and whine about the “fertility problem” in the Western world in one breath. That’s because “overpopulation” is, in fact, a racistic tool. Too many Africans, Asians and Latinos, it is implied, but not enough Whites. Fuck that.

  10. Jeez when I was a kid (I’m 42) I could swear everyone had 4-6 kids

  11. it’s not a fertility problem, it’s that both parents work these days so they don’t have time enough for the children.

The same problem appears in a few generations among immigrants

  12. Spain needs better parental leave policy. It’s really crappy compared to other places in Europe. It would also help new workers get experience as they’d cover for the maternal or paternal leave while the parent is away. It would help with the high youth unemployment rate.

  13. It’s pretty sweet that we’ll have a larger land area to every human here on our continent in the future.

  14. Who in their right mind want more humans on this planet anyway? We need less.. alot less..
