Hi guys. Maybe a long shot but does anyone of you have experience repairing a window on a Dachgeschoss? In the picture, the galvanized golden part is broken off (on the other side of the window). This part moves upwards and downwards when you move the window handle from one side to the other side. Is the repair as simple as unscrewing the two screws, and put a new part in? Or is it more complicated due to the moving mechanism behind it? I will be thankful for any support.

  1. First, in case you are renting, this is the business of the landlord. If you attempt to repair it yourself without consent of the landlord, it can get expensive if you screw it up (because then the landlord can ask to you pay for a complete repair by a professional. Otherwise, the landlord has to pay).

Second, getting this exact part can be difficult, in particular if it is an old window. You can screw it off, take it to the next Baumarkt, and see if they have this part. If they have not, it’s probably time to contact a professional Handwerker for windows.

Third, nobody will be able to tell you if the “repair is just as simple” from a single photo. Probably not even from multiple photos. There might be something else broken that you cannot see.
