    I remember constantly coming across young Americans online a long time ago who wanted to learn German seemingly just randomly, i.e. without any expectations of it helping them migrate to Germany or doing business with Germany.

    Now, this practically never happens. Whenever someone does express an interest in learning German, it’s specifically because they want to move here or have some other specific goal.
