The only solutions under current laws are limited deportations and redistributions around the EU. These laws are clearly inadequate considering the present situation. Laws need to change.
Present maritime law is being abused and perverted, that means it’s not a good law and needs urgent change. Maybe it was a good law in the past, but now it’s not protecting Europe. Legislation needs to protect their taxpayers and constituents, not foreigners.
It would be worse, then the migrant’s boats would just come close to the ships and declare emergency asking to be saved.
