Where did you think they were getting their money from the whole time?
Fuckers probably never set foot in Ireland.
They haven’t made it to the States, they’re from there.
I came across lot of Irish American on X. Everyday. Who post slogans like that. And supports Donal Trump
There has to be a big market for this in the States, I’m surprised they haven’t tapped into yet.
I’m not as negative on Irish Americans as most of this sub are but there’s something about their strong feelings for Ireland that makes me uneasy.
Scratch beneath the surface with a lot of them and they’ll start taking about Irish blood and how they’ve kept the bloodline alive because all of their family only ever married other Irish Americans. Some will even suggest that they are more Irish than people in Ireland despite being 3 or 4 generations removed from the country.
I don’t think this line of politics would be very popular in the Boston area, although they would probably have more traction there than in Ireland itself.
“Ireland belongs to the Irish”
*But not female Irish, disabled Irish, gay Irish, trans Irish, Irish with mental illnesses, Jewish Irish, Muslim Irish, atheistic Irish, Irish with “dissenting views”.
As an Irish American who is only tangentially in the know about Irish politics and social movements and the like, I am guessing this is not about Irish unification and is some far-right racist dogwhistle?
My best friend of 30 years came to America when she was 17 in 1958. She is a progressive liberal Democrat in her beliefs, she is one of the most loving and accepting people I know. Yet, she always votes Republican and watches Fox News. I have tried to explain to her the Republican party here is not the same as the Republican party in Ireland. Nope, she is a Republican. We don’t discuss politics anymore.
