  1. Summery: According to General Andrii Sokolov, who commanded the defense in the southern sector of Ukraine at the onset of the Russian invasion, Ukraine had only around 1,500 soldiers defending against 20,000 Russian troops. The southern grouping of troops was rotational, with some soldiers being replaced by others. The 59th Motorized Brigade, for example, had only 1,300 troops and was still restoring its combat capabilities after being pulled back from the Anti-Terrorist Operation Zone. The staffing of the brigade was around 60%. Additionally, artillery and sapper units were reportedly incomplete as they were conducting training in other regions. General Sokolov had the 137th Marine Battalion under his command, which was staffed at around 50% with 250 soldiers, including conscripts. The defense plans called for at least two brigades, or even four, to be deployed in the south in the event of an escalation, but General Sokolov only received the incomplete 110th Zaporizhzhia Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces at the end of the first day of the invasion.

  2. That should have been enough to blow the Chonhar bridges though and the Antonovsky bridge.

Keep in mind 2 brigades of artillery North of Kyiv stopped the entire 40 km force with 1,000s vehicles… In some ways the South with marshy land, limited bridges and roads, something the Ruskis are still struggling with should have been easier to slow the Russkis or atleast make them pay a terrible price. A brigade of artillery blasting away at the exposed Ruskis would have made a huge difference…

Just get the feeling there is a lot more to this story….
