  1. 5 years or 8 years, we are in it for the long haul. Dual citizenship possibility or not, I’ve planned financially for the worst when separating myself but will hope for the best.

Now back to this unbelievably tasty dark beer my neighbor made for me and continued Googling about this Robbie Williams Angles song that apparently everyone knows but me.

  2. The quality of reporting is astonishing.

First of all, the law passing through the Bundesrat means practically nothing: that would only mean it can go to the next, actually important step ie. the Bundestag. I doubt many people will apply for citizenship after the Bundesrat gives its opinion (as the article claims as far as I can ascertain), since cabinet announcement was way more relevant and covered in the media.

In addition to that, the article claims the Bundesrat will do anything with the draft at all on 29 September. This is most likely not the case, it is neither on the agenda of its next sitting on 29 September, nor was on the agenda of any of the committees it has been assigned (interior; work, integration and social policy; law; and family and youth).

In addition to that, the deadline for the Bundesrat‘s opinion expires on 20 October. This is actually the same date as the Bundesrat‘s October sitting. Considering the Bundesrat‘s September agenda is pretty full (more than 100 agenda items already!) there is no reason to not use the full time it is constitutionally allowed to use.

But hey, maybe IAmExpat just knows more than me about the legislative process in this specific case. Maybe the agendas have been updated, maybe…
