I bought these at my local Polish shop (I live in Ireland) and the recently they have been moldy and have a stronger smell. Lady at the store said this is normal, and a sign that the salad is getting good. Is this true? Or is it possibly unsafe to eat?
It doesn’t look like mold. Most likely some grimy bits that stuck to the jar ot lid and became oxidated due to not being submerged in the brine. Or it could be some spice residue mixed with dirt (or rust).
