From the article:
“Italy will increase how long migrants can be detained before being deported to a year and a half under tough rules to deter a “biblical exodus” of record boat crossings from North Africa.
Giorgia Meloni, the Italian prime minister, said the time migrants due to be expelled could be detained would be increased from a maximum of 135 days to 18 months, which is about 547 days.”
Which means that the Italian government will pay a lot more money to house and feed these people, even if in inhumane conditions.
In fact Meloni said that the government will build various new detention centres, some have said it will be one per region, in “rural zones as not to make the citizens feel insecure”. More useless posturing basically to hide the fact that the government will spend a lot more money, which their supporters hate but now have been told they will love it.
No detention centers. No detention period. No nothing. Save them if they’re drowning and return them back immediately. If the country of origin doesn’t cooperate declare war over this, they’re not the nuclear power. And the army is there with tax money exactly to defend our fucking borders
Realistically nothing will ever change regarding immigrants issue unless EU decides to turn back all illegal boats and refuse taking refugees in.
