Calls for “clarity and accountability” have been made after HSE chiefs ordered a review into spina bifida paediatric care at a hospital where 19 children suffered serious catastrophic complications after surgery.

One of those children has since died following a procedure. It has also emerged “unauthorised devices” have been found inside young patients and there have been concerns over the medical care provided by one consultant.

The HSE has apologised and ordered an independent review by UK experts to get to the bottom of the latest medical scandal at Children’s Hospital Ireland Temple Street in Dublin.
