After six months of sustained aerial bombing, the town of Orikhiv in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, now looks like a pile of matchsticks. Local resident Stanislav Frank hangs on and continues to care for the abandoned animals, feeding them and treating them.

I’ve been watching volunteers evacuate animals from there over the past six months. Orikhiv has been shelled since the beginning of the full-scale invasion but last Spring it still looked like a town. By late summer it was all rubble and reportedly not a house is still left standing.
But Stanislav Frank continues his feeding rounds there everyday visiting every house where animals were left behind, even though a month ago he was beginning to realise the situation was becoming impossible.
