  1. Excerpt:

    > *The attack comes four days after Ukraine warned Russia had renewed attacks on Ukraine’s own energy infrastructure, which suffered major outages last year after Russian attacks.*
    >
    > Ukraine’s security service has said a drone attack that left several villages in Russia’s Kursk region without electricity overnight was deliberately carried out by Kyiv so that “Russians… experience for themselves what a ‘blackout’ is.”
    >
    > On the night of Sept 26, a Ukrainian UAV dropped explosives on an electricity substation in the village of Snagost in Korenevsky District.
    >
    > Seven settlements in the area were left without power, Kursk Governor Roman Starovoit said on Tuesday.
    >
    > A Kyiv Post source in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) confirmed the drone attack, saying it was “evidence that SBU special operations are reaching a new level.”
    >
    > They added: “The Russians should understand that if they are going to continue attacking Ukrainian energy facilities, they will receive a harsh response.
    >
    > “Therefore, I really want Russians to experience for themselves what a ‘blackout’ is.”

  2. Definitely smaller scale than what ruZZia is doing to Ukraine, but hopefully a few ruZZians get the point. I rather doubt it though as that would require actual thinking.

  3. I understand and do not oppose this specific move but I find the reasoning a little bit worrying. What will stop Ukraine from using the exact same reasoning before attacking other civilian infrastructure?

Can a line be drawn between choosing legitimate targets and causing unnecessary suffering for civilians? For example, would Ukraine do the same for a larger Russian city with no military value except for a hospital? Can the Western public opinion and the higher moral point of view cause Ukraine to respect these lines during the whole course of the war?

  4. Sometimes I don’t understand Ukraine. Ukraine has been berating Russia for damaging it’s civilian energy infrastructure, and now they are doing the exact same thing.

  5. They should have done this last year as well. Great news.
    3 benefits of doing this;

    1. They have to recall air defense from the front to defend a huge electric or gas infrastructure. There by stretching their defenses.
    2. Causes the Russian people to feel the pain that Ukrainian people have been feeling. Hopefully causing them to go against the government.
    3. The Russian government will have to think twice about attacking the infrastructure cause they don’t want problems 1 and 2. Thus serving as a deterrent.
