The [Mediterranean Recluse](https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/151792-Loxosceles-rufescens) \- *Loxosceles rufescens* (**caution** **spider photos in link**) lives in dark places and gets out to hunt at night. They don’t actively seek to bite people but if they feel threatened they are more than capable of doing so. Their venom is super toxic and has no antidote as of now.
If you get bitten by one you get skin necrosis (loxoscelism) that once healed leaves a considerable scar on the body. You can spot one by looking at its head. There’s a shape on it, like a violin. They do live in houses in cities as well.
I don’t kill any spiders, not even black widows. But this is where I make an exception. It is NOT an endangered species, not even close. In fact, it’s invasive to many other parts of the world. I myself have spotted one when I was in Troodos, and Nicosia. I also spotted some when I was living in UK.
Be careful people.
