Even looking at the figures for 2022, it seems a little over half of people are actually claiming the money. Interesting mixture of apathy, awareness, dodgy landlords….?
I am waiting to claim it in my tax return in January. Same as I did for last year.
Is it worth more to you to spread it over the year, or to get the lump sum after the fact? I wouldn’t even notice it spread out, but getting €500 at a lean and miserable time of year feels pretty sweet.
Tbh , in my situation it’s just fear to claim. My landlord isn’t registered with the RTB, if i was to make a claim and they were investigated they could well issue a notice of termination. There’s nothing in the locale, anything close by is twice the amount we are paying now and don’t accept dogs.
If they issue a notice of termination i’ll claim credits and won’t care about revenue investigating them…but until then id rather just not rock the boat
Surely they are all waiting until January for the lump sum.
Last time I had a look, it wanted my landlords RTB number and it wasn’t optional.
They’re not registered and I don’t think its worth the potential hassle for me if they’re checked.
Has it changed to being an optional field?
If I knew how to do it I would do it, but it hasn’t been widely published on how to claim it. Does anybody know how to claim it?
Its the fear that landlords will evict you if you mention anything about revenue that is stopping people from claiming it. Last year a large minoriry didnt claim it.
It should not be up to renters to ensure their landlord is following the law.
Give revenue the power and access to land registry and dept housing so they can chase up and certidy who owns what in this country.
Cash in hand landlords are rampant in Ireland.
When will they realise that our landlords are not registered and we cannot claim
For those of us who pay cash to a landlord we are screwed
I’m an expat from another country and I’m a little overdue to file my taxes after having started working in Feb of 2022. I’m mad fearful of the tax man as we have an antiquated and vicious tax system in my home country.
Is there any handy guide or website I can use to make sure I’m maximising my tax return and can do it on my own?
