Dialects play different roles in Switzerland’s language regions: in German-speaking Switzerland they dominate everyday life, while in French-speaking Switzerland they have virtually disappeared, and in Italian-speaking Switzerland they are only spoken with close friends and family.

It‘s because of Nazi Germany and CH actively trying to differentiate starting WW2, as they did not want to be associated with Germany (of course). It reversed the trend of it starting to go away.
“virtually disappeared in Romandie”? Try explaining to a Romand that this is the “Lac de Genève” and you’ll see how strongly they will defend their right to be wrong.
Also try “quatre-vingts” in those same rural cantons.
