Micheál with his finger on the pulse of the electorate there.
Unfortunately for him, the British electorate can’t vote for him.
This fucking discussion is a zombie. Can’t kill it. Keeps being brought back up.
Ironically, this ‘controversy’ is all in their heads
It does greatly down play the experiences of the Nationalist community in the North during the Troubles. But the vast vast majority of people singing it have probably never given a second thought about the lyrics of the song so they’re not explicitly expressing a partitionist position.
Speaking as a nordie, I’ll sing that or Celtic Symphony if I’ve a few pints in me, it doesn’t bother me. What does bother me is the media trying to manufacture a reason as to why the crowd were singing Zombie as a response to the pearl clutching about the Wolfe Tones.
God if I read one more thing about this from the press I’ll car bomb myself. Such a pointless waste of everything. Who gives a fuck what the Tainaiste or anyone has to say.
The one positive about this discussion is identifying those arguing against the song as complete morons.
No Need to Argue
This is such a ridiculous country at times.
It’s an absolute disgrace.
The song is a free stater song, sung by a southern free stater. Clearly is the case when you look at the history of it, no point lying. That’s what Irish in ulster think about it. But who cares no one thinks about the meaning much anymore
Deflection. His comment on “infection” was incredible from a Táiniste and has fed into the abusive culture that he and FFG condemn so readily. Utterly hypocritical.
Are they still on about this?
I just thought it was a direct response to the Celtic symphony outrage.
Nobody was really offended by either song, but you have to be to be to get a leg up on the other side.
Half the ones I know that are so upset about it, were belting it out on nights out, but now have to be offended because someone else got offended about the Wolfe Tones.
Wise up and get a grip, it’s a catchy tune.
That said, I could think of better, more hyped up songs for following a sports win.
Seems like every coffee shop is now playing Cranberries on a loop. Not a bad development.
