The IFS is NOT a think tank that we should be interested by. They are incredibly pro Conservative and anti-tax.
The fact that the BBC has this as their headline story and is treating this as a bad thing is a testament to its recent pro Conservative bias.
The Tories have decimated public services and we need more tax to fund the things that we need for people.
I relish this statistic and hope that it goes up, ideally with a Wealth tax.
Fuck ’em.
If you’re an average PAYE worker in the U.K. the tax burden is a fucking joke. Even if you are ‘lucky’ enough to make £50k the take home is only £37k. Let’s assume you then pay council tax, VAT for a year, road tax, fuel duty etc etc. Out of your £37k what is left?! Compound this with high inflation, low wages and a cost of living crisis and all of a sudden your £50k ain’t worth shit.
Ok i might be an idiot, so someone please ELI5….
When I started work in 1999 the personal allowance was £4335 and didn’t rise above 10k until 2014.
So tax rates have got lower. What am I missing?
I’ve got not issues with high tax, if it is spent well. What I don’t understand is they are getting more and more in tax every year and services are getting worse and worse.
