Great to see people welcomed to our country take no time to absolutely dog on us to the British press. There isn’t concrete evidence that it was an actual act of racism still other than an interpretation of a 10 second clip. Especially when the wee girl didn’t leave the building without medals and was actually awarded two on the day and displayed on a podium later on.
We all know racism is bad etc. but this one especially just feels so wrong and sad.
> The judge at the event later apologised to the family for her “mistake” and said that she would “never ever ever be racist”.
However, the girl’s family believe their daughter was the subject of racism. They have asked for the family not to be named, fearing it would prompt racist abuse.
Sounds like an honest mistake to me … why do they believe it was because of racism?
The presentation was for participation medals. The girl left out was getting a winners medal. The young volunteer thought she didn’t get a participation medal because she was getting a winners medal. That was wrong, she was to get both. It was a mistake
Definitely something more going on here now.
For this to be true, all the gymnastics Ireland officials would have to be racist, as well as the officials from Sports Ireland and the GEF who mediated and passed the case back to Gymnastics Ireland back in March
She’s going to get a winners medal, is there footage of that because I’m sure all the other kids will be feeling excluded for not getting one of them.
Sounds like compo culture.
Of course it isn’t. I’m sure the the settlement will be more useful to them.
Possible nice little earner for the parents.
“You got a medal. We have a picture of you smiling on a podium with the medal. The child giving participation medals thought that winners didn’t get a second medal for participation. It was a communication issue. She apologised.”
