So i was cleaning up my room and found a bunch of old phones that I kept as a potential replacement if my new one dies, so I wanted to throw them away. Because I did not know where to go, I googled a bit and found on Recupel an article that linked a study from 2019 that found that only 15% of phones in Europe are recycled, and Belgians only bring in 8% of their old devices.

So that made me wonder. 8% is a really small amount especially since we can recycle up to 99% of the materials in a phone. The UAntwerpen says for every 50 000 phones recycled, there is 158 tonnes less CO2 emissions and 6.3 tonnes less toxic waste.

So I’m just curious at how many of you also kept old cellphones like I did, and if there’s a reason why you are keeping them?
