I’m confused, she repeatedly failed the standard fitness test and that’s somehow sexist?
It’s not about her failing the bleep test, it’s about the alternative not being properly offered.
“Ms Brown repeatedly failed to meet the 7.6 level but the tribunal found she had not been given the opportunity to formally attempt a different test called the “Chester treadmill test”. This involves running on a treadmill while the gradient is increased every two minutes.
She had been given one chance to try it as a familiarisation exercise but when she struggled to balance she wasn’t encouraged to persevere, or given any guidance. The tribunal found no other means of reaching the equivalent of 7.6 on the bleep test were discussed.”
“innate biological reasons” fuck off. 7.6 on a bleep test is highly achievable for any relatively active person. This one is just a sack of shit who failed to prepare.
Fuck sake, 7.6 is just pushing out of a jog.
It’s sexist that most forces up until recently had different requirements with young males needing to get a much higher result that older females.
The peak of sexism but they’re moving away to a standard test for all age/sex.
Fitness is really important though, if you’re not even capable of running on a treadmill I’d have serious concerns re fitness to do any role like that.
I hope the criminals appreciate <checks notes> running fast is sexist and slow down near her.
After 13 years of ‘conservative’ rule our country is appearing a complete joke.
At least legal precedent now confirms that men are better than women 😂 I think we should organise an intergender r/unitedkingdom bleep test and the losers have to mod for a week 😂
I’m convinced these cases are just hurting women’s opportunities in the work place
Look at this headline and imagine being an employer and just sighing thinking “why do we even both with women? A guy would fail the test and just be dismissed, but it’s always a song and dance about why it’s because she’s a woman, never about why she couldn’t run fast enough”
Unfit, lazy and unveiling to take accountability for it. Not exactly good qualities when peoples’ lives could be on the line
I remember seeing one of the police shows and a woman police officer , who had a fella handcuffed, behind his back, in the back of a police car, with the belt on, AND the door shut, was overpowered by the guy who managed to get out and knock her on the floor. I got a lot of anger thrown my way for suggesting maybe police offer wasn’t her calling…. It isn’t for everyone clearly.
This is just nonsense. It’s not sexist to not give someone an alternative test, it’s either negligent or incompetent.
Unless they were readily offering men who failed the test the opportunity to take the alternative test.
But as always we never get to hear these little details.
I’ll caveat this with purely going on this one BBC article, I’m sure there’s way more nuance behind the alternative test and a summary judgement would point that out rather than she just couldn’t balance once on the alternative testing.
And I realise there’s that subtle difference between equality and equity in the world where equality is everyone being treated the same, equity is accepting there’s differences and making allowances for that. But it’s starting to feel like we’ve peaked at the issues surrounding equality and are now just letting people do anything for equity reasons.
For an article on the main national broadcaster to basically say that men are better at fitness things just baffles me. Why would they ever employ women in these roles if they are openly saying men are naturally fitter? Are we going to go backwards and only allow men and women to do certain roles?
Oh look, new depths of police morale I thought never possible.
so men and women have to pass the same test score – otherwise it would be sexist – but women need to be given more help – otherwise it would be sexist. just seems to get more absurd every day.
7.6 is quite easy and all I do is 5 a side once a week. If you want highly trained people protecting the country you should be able to run 7.6 on a bleep test
