  1. Stealing from charity shops is wrong. However…

They used to be excellent places to get cheap clothes, and secondhand bits and bobs for reasonable prices. These shops really helped our family out when I was young. Now though, they’re charging £6-7 for a used school shirt and £4 for paperbacks. It feels like all the charity is going one way. I don’t think they have the ethos they once had.

  2. Just because they say it’s a charity shop doesn’t mean that a majority of the money collected goes to the named charity. Charity management loves to pay themselves well and they expect to have their asses kissed for charity work.

  3. >costing the average charity shop an estimated £26,400

Misleading. These two statements do not mean the same thing.

  4. i can see the logic. the items in there where given away and used.

there is also the issue that charity shops have gone from a place for a bargain to the same price as buying new, so people who may be out of options and desperate are just saying ‘fuck it’.

  5. It is scummy and sets a precedent, however few charity shops have anything actually worth stealing and selling on. Unless they are in a solidly middle class area, they are risking a criminal record for something worth not even £5.
