  1. “So far almost £423m has been spent buying up 424 properties on the western leg from Birmingham to Manchester”

So they paid £1 million a property? Thats ridiculous

  2. If the HS2 does NOT go any further North. Then wouldn’t the government just sell those properties and land and the money raised returned to the exchequer? Or am I missing something?

  3. Have a look at the land they bought at farmland rates which they are now going to sell at commercial rates. “Oh at least this might make up some of the huge losses we see I HS2” . Who do you think is going to see the profit here? Some private company owned by the friend of an MP who got the contract and has failed to deliver on HS2.

  4. Just remember there is currently a Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities of the United Kingdom.

What an easy job that is

  5. They bought up a ton of land around Darlington station. They were going to upgrade existing lines to allow for higher speed running to get HS2 trains further north. It’s all been cancelled. The fences with HS2 signs are still there iirc.
