my partner is currently applying for Arbeitslosengeld 1 and Elterngeld, now that our baby has arrived 🥰 We have received some conflicting info and are wondering if you can help. It seems it is better if my partner applies only for Elterngeld. If they register as arbeitslos AND get ALG 1 AND Elterngeld, then it seems that they need to actively search for new work and show proof that they are looking for work. But if they are registered as arbeitslos and only receive Elterngeld, then they can comfortably care for the baby for the 12 months that they plan. Or must they take ALG 1 if registered as arbeitslos?
