I’d like to get a tattoo to remember my time time in Berlin and I thought that the coat of arms might be a good way to do so, however when I enquired about the tattoo the artist informed me that is might come across “nationalist” the last thing I’d want to do is insult a people by getting a tattoo, but I what I want to know is; would a tattoo of the crest, more specifically the bear come across in bad taste?

  1. An other people who I would think of if I see a coat of arms tattoo are football ultras or hooligans tbh

  2. I am not aware that the Berlin bear is “nationalist”. Refrain from adding any kind of runes or swastikas and you should be fine.

  3. Why so blunt? Just get a comic version of it or whatever.

  4. I am under the impression that just the bear as a symbol of Berlin is acceptable as a design motif. I don’t remember seeing it as a tattoo, but so many local businesses incorporate the bear in their logos and promotional material.

The coat of arms though, I think only the state government uses it.

  5. Maybe something more neutral, like a skyline silhouette or the TV tower?

  6. That’s not nationalist at all. Germans are just afraid of showing any type of German flag because of ….reasons and a history with a certain flag. Don’t get a swastika or some shit like that tho

  7. There are some restrictions for the use of official coat of arms for private use.

Maybe it is better to just use the bear without the the rest. I have seen the bear used in many variations.

  8. There is absolutely nothing nationalist about putting this one on your skin, it’s only “Bearlin”, no nation there…

  9. This is beyond funny! I am sorry but do Germans have any dignity or are they slaves?

  10. Get the bear and just don’t get it looking to the right.

  11. Well, you Could get your blood type tatooed under your upper left arm in Fraktur…
