Hopefully it gets pushed farther down the line before that time comes. Companies have literally no incentive to increase ordinary Bulgarian wages beyond what they currently are in leva, but companies and private individuals **absolutely do** have an incentive to increase the price of goods. Before you tell me that this is going to be controlled or punished, ask yourself if that seriously worked in any of the other southern European eurozone accessions.
[Only 49 *per cent* of Bulgarians think this is a good idea, whilst 60 *per cent* fear the rising prices and the impacts this would have on them.](https://europa.eu/eurobarometer/surveys/detail/2982) And that’s according to the EU themselves… I can only hope that ordinary Bulgarians get a say on this change, but after the current government broke the constitution to strike down a referendum on delaying the euro, I’m not sure there’s much hope. Fingers crossed the current mass protests and unions fighting back will have an impact on this failure of a government.
