  1. Why are they even considering wasting money on that shitehole of a company.

€16m could be better spent increasing Disability by €2 a week.

  2. D4 cunts being D4 cunts, wrap it up no one wants a penny spent on it

  3. Rte have shown that they cannot operate under a simple budget, no bail out until they have proper accounting and viability across all sectors

  4. There is a stark understanding between the words “*want*” and “*need*”.

  5. “Will need”. I think they meant to say, “we are choosing to give them, despite their recklessness”.

  6. Time for RTE to find a new site outside the M50 and sell the land to several developers and put in schools and other amenities they have rightly fucked up so badly and seem to be doing f-all except complain since they were found out and made sure no1 has to take responsibility

  7. That surplus news seems more consequential than the RTE bailout

  8. Let it sink why is our tax money being spunked at the propaganda machine

  9. Going by that article this is going to end up being a very contentious budget.

Government coffers overflowing but it absolutely kills FFFG to give even crumbs back to the country

  10. I’d rather bail out the banks that fucked us all again than bail out rte.

  11. Here’s a solution. Sell the campus then go set up somewhere else. Lanesborough or Tipp Town or some really desolate place in the Midlands.

I’d suggest retrofitting out an old peat fired power plant or even better go to Troy studios in Limerick and lease the place.

Anyone who doesn’t want to make the move looses their jobs and we employ young local talent. It’s so obvious and simple.

  12. 20 billion – 56 million still leaves 19 billion 946 million so, Sindo, RTE is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. A rounding error. What is the other almost 20 billion? And why isn’t it the headline?

  13. That is a catastrophically bad headline. Those 2 figures are in completely different realms I’ll wait until a reputable organisation has a story on this €20bn drop in the budget

  14. WTF is that headline??

As if the €20bn is being spent on RTE…

  15. It should be teased out with educationalist Martin what be meant when he said RTE shouldn’t rush into selling Montrose. That’s the auld lad mindset there that RTE is indispensable, a cultural icon etc. Its 2023 and the way people consume media has changed completely. The Montrose site should be taken by the government to provide a mixed development of social and affordable housing, an exemplar project as a model for all future planning and development. RTE should be slashed back to the core and put in with TG4 down the west or mid-west.

  16. 20 billion will be slashed by approx 1/20 of a billion?

Scare-mongering aside, RTE should be told to fuck off till they get their house in order.

  17. That’s quite some fact twisting headline.

I bet the tosser who came up with it reckons he/she nailed it and is smoking a cigar.

  18. RTE don’t even deserve a pot to piss in.

That 56m can probably be located in executives bonus’ over the last 5 years

  19. They need to get rid of the USC like the promised. Tax is too high here, it’s farcical. 52% must go. Then they can figure out where the surplus is and figure out ways to spend government money more wisely

  20. There’s where your money goes, folks. Up the hole in Donnybrook with the nepo-babies.

  21. Someone didn’t pass leaving cert maths if they think a bailout of 56m = 20bn
