Why the hell is there a bus on a road that narrow? Crazy driving too.

  1. Not defending the driving but that’s most likely the route

  2. >Why the hell is there a bus on a road that narrow?

Probably a bus from the rural school transport fleet. A lot of the divers are farmers, so he’s probably taking the bus home to have it for his run in the morning.

No excuse for that driving though.

  3. All bus drivers receive an injection of hatred of cyclists upon taking on the job.

  4. Why the hell was the cyclist so close to the edge? That bus would have sat behind me in the middle of the of the road until there was a safe place to let him by.

  5. Jesus H Christ, that is shocking driving. No excuse for arrogance and blatant reckless driving.

  6. Try cycle down the N81 after Brittas towards Citywest….trucks and buses….I only tried that once.

  7. Just a little note to the commenters or potential critics who are asking why the cyclist is so close to the edge rather than taking up the whole lane to assert that they shouldn’t be overtaken:

On bumpy roads or windy/rainy/inclement days a cyclist is more likely to use their ears rather than their eyes to gauge the size of and/or how close the vehicle approaching is. I can tell you from experience that this is inconsistent on the best of days and it seems like this was a particularly windy day for the original poster so knowing if this is a bus or a particularly big van or, hell, even a well-endowed jeep is difficult.

There’s also the fact that as one looks over their shoulder they tend to sway into that direction (this is seen in car drivers in the form of object fixation) so the cyclist looking over their shoulder could even be a bit more risky than holding to the side as this cyclist was doing.

The point I’m trying to make is that though in an ideal world a cyclist would be able to assert themselves on the road and be aware of every single thing on the road while asserting themselves that this is unrealistic in the presence of a bus driver who is in a rush to miss their next stop.
