Interactive article from ‘De Tijd’ to show where our tax money is spend on.
[Waar vloeit uw belastinggeld naartoe?](https://multimedia.tijd.be/begroting/)
Bullet points for people who are paywalled:
* all our governments spend **279 miljard €** ( 55,5% of our BBP)
* **105,6 miljard €** goes to social protection ( for each 100 € spend in soc. security, 38 € goes to pensions)
* **43,3 miljard €** goes to healthcare
* **35,5 miljard €** goes to economic policies ( all things subsidised by our government)
* **35 miljard €** goes to government
* **31 miljard €** goes to education (yep, less then government and economic policies…)
social security ( social protection and healthcare combined) add up for more than half our spending budget.

If you’re going to post in English please translate miljard to billion…
Tbh: when i got my paper from the gov to pay some lore taxes, their was a diagram with it, to show where all our tax money went.
Dont know why ‘de tijd’ needs to make an article for this
Maar hoeveel verdwijnt er in de zakken van graaiers, subsidieslurpers en (sociale) fraudeurs?
>goes to education (yep, less then government and economic policies…)
Bullshit.
Public transport is also included under “economic policies”, should we stop subsidizing it then?
I don’t think we are spending too little on education, we are mainly allocating it wrongly.
We could print more money !
Ageing population and rising costs in healthcare and pensions, will make it harder and harder to balance the budget in the near future. Cuts will have to be made, but where? It’s unlikely that many political movements will chip away at the benefits that support their voting base.
GRANULARITY please
Graphs like this mean nothing – if X goes to education i want to know how much actually goes to the boots on the ground.
People would be surprised how much of this money is lost on overhead and how little actually goes to the end-receivers.
We could easily save 40 billion. First 20 Billion from social protection. A lot of eternal parasites need to be kicked of the welfare programs.
Then 15 from the economic policies. All Green energy subsidies should be gutted. 5000€ for an electric car , will only help the already wealthy. Same with the other policies.
Then saving 5-15 from the government. Less pay for the politicians, less cabinet members. Less overall government by merging already existing branches.
But instead of saving money. The current government is thinking about raising the BTW on everything by 2%
