  1. One for the daily mail readers

Gotta love the banality of the tory offer

Makes John Major’s cones hotline look visionary

  2. Why is this even an article. Of all the shit to write about when it comes to education “it’s ThE pHoNeS”

  3. “Ministers already encourage headteachers to limit phone usage, with many schools having put restrictions in place.”

I think it’s fairly obvious without minister guidance phones use was discouraged and prohibited by schools as soon as they became more accessible.

The problem is really it’s nearly impossible to prevent – good kids won’t use them during lesson time and such. But to try and ban them completely is another ridiculous and wasted Tory effort to be seen to be doing something pointless

  4. Gillian a bit of advice, maybe focus on the school not falling down before worrying about whether a couple of kids are on Instagram

  5. Wow, I guess the teachers didn’t take my phone off me in the 2000s.

  6. Am calling dibs on the next hard hitting policy announcement “crack down on E Bikes / Scooters”

  7. My sons learned more from Wikipedia than from school. Just because Keegan’s kids spend their time using their phones for Tiktok and Instagram that is no reason to penalise those children who see it as an educational resource.

  8. “plans to ban”

    Classic Tory soundbite.

Yes, let’s add another thing to overstretched teachers to worry about.

  9. You’d be better of teaching kids how to use the internet.

That might sound like a simple enough task but they go in blind and follow whatever else they might see on screen as being the norm.

  10. I wouldn’t ban them, just jam them. Then only allow teachers and school devices on the network

  11. “Gillian Keegan desperately claws for a semblance of control within the education sector.”

    FTFY.

  12. Can’t wait for Jeremy Vine to discuss this on radio 2 only to invite exclusively geriatric callers to have an opinion.

  13. > It’s all those 5G waves bashing the concrete to smithereens that’s the real problem! – Keegan

    The UK is so fucked.

  14. I don’t appose to them stopping kids using them during school I just don’t know how practical it is to ban them.

  15. Pretty sure you are not allowed to use mobile phones in schools already.

This is a bit like their claims for inflation coming down i.e. it is already happening without their input.

New tory policy announcing that grass is to be green.

  16. i was a bad kid in school as were most of my school friends, banning phones wont do jack shit. the good kids already dont use their phone during class and the bad kids dont care what the teacher says and are happy to disrupt a hour long lesson over getting asked to put their phone away.

more tory bullshit because they have no clue how to run the country

  17. There won’t be any schools to ban them in if they all collapse
