The population was estimated to be 120.000 following the 2020 war. Before the 2020 war it was 145.000.
The Azerbaijani UN office released this info today:
Were any Armenians actually brutalized during this exodus, or has it solely been based on a fear of Balkan-style ethnic cleansing? Many Asian-Indians (including my wife, who was then a child.) fled Kenya as they thought that there would be a repeat of what happened in Idi Amin’s Uganda. Kenya never actually expelled its Indian population.
I have seen many reports of Armenians fleeing, but no actual reports of atrocities. I’m not talking about what may have happened militarily, and the unfortunate civilians killed in military clashes. Is Azerbaijan really that untrustworthy? Links to reports, historic or current much preferred to ‘All Azeris want to kill Armenians’ please.
Genuine question, by the way, as I know next to nothing about the situation, knowing more about the Turkish genocide of Armenians.
