At €2 a burger it’s hard to believe. Anyone tried them or know if they are legit Wagyu?

  1. Jesus, at that price I‘d be a bit suspicious about it being the real McCoy! (Never knew we even reared Wagyu beef here)

  2. You can get Wagyu cows that are intensively farmed.

It’s not going to be Japanese A5

  3. I dunno about the burgers, but the steak is definitely better than normal steak. Should be for the price mind you, they’re far more expensive than normal steak. And Irish normal steak is already better than most steak worldwide.

The meat comes from a specific Northern Irish farm and his Wagyu herd. The cows are Australian sourced, from stock originally from Japan. You can read all about them at https://riversdale-wagyu.com/about-us/

Taste wise, they’re more “gamey” than normal steak. The steak is worth eating once or twice, not sure if it’s worth the premium over normal steak. But then even normal steak is very expensive nowadays, I’d rarely eat it.

  4. Absolutely not legit Wagyu.
It might be from a cow that was sired by a Wagyu bull but that’s about it.
Real Wagyu costs at least $100 a pound so would cost at least $25 a burger.

  5. They look like the exact ones they have been selling in the UK aldi shops for a few years now

I tried them when they first appeared and didn’t like them, just a big tasteless burger

  6. Had similar in supervalue over the summer. Did them on the bbq. Had to move them constantly because the fat kept bursting into flames. Cooked one slowly in a frying pan to see how much fat came out. There was lots!

    Tasty though.

  7. Wagyu burgers, even if it is legitimate A5 Japanese wagyu are basically scams. What makes the steak so delicious is the fattiness from the marbling. When you grind it up to a burger patty, all of that is lost. It makes no sense to grind up meat that expensive, so, people don’t.

This is definitely not Japanese A5 but more than likely from a cross breed. I’m sure it tasted just like a burger.

  8. I don’t know about the legitimacy of the Wagyu claims but I’ve tried them a couple of times and I think that they are tastier than their less expensive specially selected black angus beef burgers – probably due to the fat content. I fried the Wagyu burgers the first time and a lot of fat came out. I grilled them the second time – more fat was retained in the burger, which made for a juicier burger. Not sure that they are worth the price difference of €0.70 per burger (€2.59 for black angus vs €3.99 for Wagyu) but I could certainly taste a difference.

  9. Depends on how authentic you expect it to be. The cow will definitely have some Wagyu DNA but no idea if or what the minimum requirements are in Ireland or Europe.100% Irish beef and Wagyu are kind of mutually exclusive.

Food Theory did a video on it a few weeks back. It’s mostly US specific but the general idea is probably similar.

  10. Tried the “wagyu” rib-eye steak from an ALDI here in the UK, I’ve never tried real wagyu beef but I know it’s not wagyu when it tastes and feels like “dry aged” tesco steak. It’s not bad but I don’t think it’s close in quality to wagyu.

  11. Well, those are hamburgers… Wagyu meat would not really be great for this type of use (but not all cow meat can be used for steaks).

  12. The wagyu steaks didn’t look particularly wagyu when I saw them.
Do they actually know what wagyu means?

  13. Hey guys, has anyone tried this new exciting product from this very good to work for company? Word on the street is they are on fire and also lit 🔥. Word out my homie brothers from another mothers wat waaaat!

  14. I did and they were decent, not mind blowing or anything,
I also tried the Wagyu steaks, rib eye was great but if you put it beside a normal ribeye I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference, the strip loin was a bit livery for my liking but could have been that individual steak, grand but no reason to pay extra for it.

  15. Yep had these last night for dinner. Loved them and they’re very tender. 👍
