No idea. My personal opinion on this is that Brussels probably isn’t a desirable place to live or at least not to me.
Because the capital of Belgium is Brussels.
Social housing maybe ?
The Nerherlands and especially Amsterdam are ridiculously expensive. Their housing policy is completely broken.
Also other capitals are very expensive. Paris, London, Dublin… So is comparison Brussels is affordable. Believe it or not, the Brussels bubble is much smaller than the one in those other cities. In Brussels it only inflates the prices in certain areas like Ixelles, Etterbeek etc. Dublin is one big bubble where it is almost impossible to live as a local. An absolutely terrible place.
Belgians are notorious builders. We have more homes than people and even turn normal city houses into 5-6 shitty apartments. We dont have a housing shortage like in other countries.
Netherlands is bigger but most of the job opportunities are highly concentrated, in the so-called Randstad. Additionally, cities like Amsterdam are so expensive, schools are trying to keep teachers by finding them residences because teachers can’t afford to live in them. Nevermind the fact that the royalty their actually bought a lot of buildings to rent them out :/.
Because our capital is Brussels. It has to be one of the most polarised capitals in the western world regarding desirability of certain houseblocks. Go look at rent prices near Schuman, Auderghem, Uccle or Woluwe. Then compare those prices to the same appartement in Schaerbeek, Molenbeek or Anderlecht. Then you’ll understand the polarisation part.
Damn een half maandloon gewoon voor huur. Prijzen zijn fucked of de lonen moeten zwaar omhoog
Go to an immo website and view interiors of apartments in Brussels and you will know why.
