  1. Sounds like she should fix the system that let’s some of them dissappear when they do change hair name rather than a sweeping populist policy that sounds good but won’t solve the issue. (and may be against human rights laws as she’s preventing them from legally changing their gender)

Also this vague policy doesn’t destinguish between those who are on the sex offenders register and those who have had their convictions spent…

  2. If somebody has been found guilty of a crime and they’ve paid the fine or spent sometime in prison. Have they paid their debt?

Some crimes are spent, after a period of time. If you’re sentenced to four years or more – adult or child then – it’s never spent.

Can a child sex offender change their name when become adults? Can a sex offender change their name once their crime is spent. Can a sex offender change their name through marriage?

Although what does a spent crime really mean?

  3. A good idea but pretty low on the list of issues she needs to tackle as part of her job. The bigger issue she should be tackling is making it so that rape trials are not collapsing due to long delays in investigating them, as well as women feeling unable to come forward out of fear of not being believed. She should focus on catching sex offenders more than on them being able to change their name.

  4. >The plans come following campaigning from the Safeguarding Alliance – whom she thanked in her speech – for the government to implement Della’s Law, named after Della Wright who was raped when she was six years old by a man who had changed his name five times.
    >
    >Sex offenders face a five-year prison sentence if they do not inform the police of their change of name. Over 1,300 sex offenders have already used the system since committing their offences and have informed authorities.
    >
    >Between January 2019 and June 2022, there were almost 12,000 prosecutions made against people on the sex offence register who have failed to tell authorities about a change in their personal information, such as name and location, despite a legal requirement to do so.

I have no problem with this.

  5. They raised this back in 2010!!!

It is already a well known safeguarding issue and I have absolutely no idea why this loophole hasn’t already been dealt with!

Name changes means DBS can flag clear – there have already been cases of nonces changing their names and then getting jobs working with children.

It should have been sorted years ago!

  6. Apparently, a little digging shows all this law does is create a review so this news won’t help anyone for awhile: ‘Della’s Law doesn’t explicitly provide a framework for how to close the loophole. The amendment would force the Home Secretary to carry out a review of the issue and propose solutions for how to fix it. This would need to be done within 12 months of Della’s Law being passed.’

  7. Why not ban any person who’s ever commited a crime from changing their names?

  8. You know all she really wants to do is bring back hanging for shoplifting and crucify every single illegal immigrant she can find all along the kent coast in a last ditch attempt to warn the others off and send them paddling back to france

Worst thing is she might well be leader of the opposition by the end of next year
