Dear Greeks, can you help me identify these foods? Had them a few years ago when I visited Athens, and I’m now making a “food diary” for my wife, and wanted to know names (english or greek are fine). Thanks!

  1. Most of these aren’t named dishes. At least not any i’ve seen before and can name.
pic 4 is straight up just a pretzel
pic 6 looks like a classic giros (but holy shit is that green stuff guacamole? who the hell does that)
pic 8 is just a donut with sugar. loukoumas in greek if you want to be fancy.
pic 9 looks like pastry with cheese. we’d call it tirokoulouro i guess

  2. 1 is “gemista” pepper with rice. We also eat it with meat

  3. Number 7 isnt a traditional Greek sweet, it’s actually a Hungarian Cannolo.

  4. 1 – Looks like a very sad version of Γεμιστά

2 – Souvlaki skewer, again the sad version?

3 – Looks like it’s trying to be a portion of gyros without the gyro

    4 – Pretzel

5 – Some salad(s) some rice and some potatoes?

    6 – Pitogyro with… guacamole? The fuck?

7 – No clue, some sweet cone thing, not traditionally Greek.

    8 – Donut with sugar

9 – Some type of koulouri, can’t tell what’s in it.

    10a – Pitogyro with… ketchup? Goddamn it…

10b – Pitaki (small pie), can’t tell what’s in it. Common versions are spanakopitakia (spinach) and tyropitakia (cheese).

Whoever served you 1,2,3,5(?*),6 and 10a in exchange for money, deserves a punch in the dick.

Edit: Goddamn OP the more I look at it the angrier I get, especially the first three. Take a piece of bread. Throw some ketchup on it and some pre-shredded cheap cheese and 3 cubes of spam. Microwave it and call it a pizza. This is the level these dishes are operating on.

If cuisine was a religion those are grounds for excommunication. They’re the worst things to have happened to Greek cuisine since the Great Famine. If a country’s ambassador somehow ended up eating at those restaurants we’d be at war with them the very next day. The restaurant catching on fire would probably improve the dishes. FUCK.

    * #5 gets a pass because I assume you gathered bits and bobs from other dishes. If this was served to you as a dish you literally had left-overs from other tables, arranged on a plate.

  5. I replied to this half an hour ago but i can’t put it out of my mind.
Don’t mean to put you down but is this all you had my man? Everything served on a plate looks absolutely miserable.

  6. pic 7 is called “καμινάδα” (chimney) in Greek, due to its shape. It’s a traditional pastry from Slovakia (Skalický trdelník) and Romania, but you can find it in other countries as well, such as Hungary and Poland.

  7. Where do yall see Γεμιστά in the first pic, when there’s meat layered in a circle 😭 😭 It’s most likely κοτοσούβλι with rice and grilled veggies on top

  8. Pic 7 is a kürtóskalács (Hungarian name) or Chimney Cake which is from Hungary/Romania, filled with ice cream I guess, and that one in particular came from a Hans & Gretel dessert shop (dessert chain found in Greece)

  9. The one with the pink spoon is known in Greece as kaminada but it’s not a Greek delight it came from other countries but I can’t remember how they call it lol

  10. I feel personally offended.. this is what you will remember from the greek cuisine

  11. the first one to me looks like stuffed chicken roll, you can tell from how it’s chicken, has some bacon and cheese inside, especially visible on the right piece, and also has those characteristic lines on the outside from the twine holding it together

  12. 1. Looks like generic tsikin with rice.
    2. Chicken souvlaki
    3. Gyros meat (chicken or pork) with salad, tzatziki and the pita bread
    4. Pretzel. German Pretzel
    5. Looks like some kind of fish filet with oven baked potatoes. Not some typical dish, just regular hotel food.
    6. Gyros pita wrap
    7. Looks like [Trdelník](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trdeln%C3%ADk) – not greek but it’s getting popular here
    8. Loukoumas
    9. Looks like tyrokoulouro from Gregory’s
    10. Gyros pita wrap and some short of “pitaki”. Can’t make any guesses about the filling.
