Police arrest six people after protesters force their way into luxury hotel being used to house asylum seekers and start fire in the stairwell, lob fireworks and break windows

1. “Protesters” is an interesting way to describe what might be attempted arsonists/murderers?

2. Lol, the Mail call the just stop oil hippies a “mob” in nearly every headline about them, but the potentially life endangering arsonists are just “protesters”

3. I’m guessing this one isn’t just stop oil or extinction rebellion, who both protest peacefully but are likely to get more negative media attention for sitting in a road.

4. This was always the intention of the Crime & Sentencing Bill, to effectively legalize far-right mob justice whilst ensuring any attempt to address the problems the Tories create is cracked down on like the Morality Police in Iran.

   That’s why you get this – attempted murder – dressed up as “legitimate protest”.

   And actual legitimate protest gets you bladed in the face with a police riot shield for having the audacity to oppose the whims of capital.

   Look forward to them trying to get rid of hate crime legislation so none of their culture warriors get long sentences, and banning membership to “political” organizations like charities or anything left of hunting the homeless for sport.

7. People that generally wear balaclavas in protests are provocateurs and historically some are also part of undercover establishment units who’s footwear will always be boots and not casual wear. This looked more like a mission for those bikers than a protest.

8. They’re not “protestors”, they’re fucking terrorists.

   They were committing arson and if they had succeeded in their goals they would have burned refugees to death.

   The right wing media and our right wing politicians have been stoking up this anger. They are responsible for these acts of terrorism.

   If you are one of the extremists (including the ones who sometimes visit this subreddit) who likes to join in with the attempts to dehumanise refugees, you are also responsible.

    This group has been protesting outside of this hotel for months now, and who can blame them, I wouldn’t want to live near somewhere that is housing 100s of young men, which we don’t have background checks for, could be all sorts of criminals amongst them

13. God, imagine being forced to leave your home by something awful and after a months, possibly years journey long you finally think you’ve arrived to somewhere relatively safe only to have the people there try to attack you (both physically and verbally)…

    Actually heartbreaking.

15. Wasn’t it only a matter of days after Cruella’s inflammatory speech last time this happened? And now this after her latest dog whistle infused speech.

    Inciting violence is after all a serious crime. But of course stochastic terrorism isn’t a real thing, she’ll say.
