At Croghan Mountain on the Wicklow/Wexford border you can walk right up to a bunch of wind turbines, they were moving at a fair clip today! (sound on)

  1. It’s a nice enough walk, few deer about. Also one of few places in Ireland I’ve seen lizards.

If you come back in winter, when it’s all foggy and cloudy it’s a little eerie because you can hear the windmills but not see them.

  2. Fun fact:

Richard D James lived near some wind turbines when he was starting out, and loved how they sounded. He recorded that sound, manipulated it and used it in lots of his Aphex Twin releases.

Mentioned in an interview with John Peel many moons ago, lord knows why but I think of it every time I see wind turbines.

  3. So not loud? Places protesting development of them because of supposed noise. Thought they would be mad loud

  4. Standing in line with the blades does scare me as the tips move at over 160km/h. If anything flew off, like ice or debris it would be lethal
