Interrupt a musical about the power of protest, makes sense
Why Les Mis?
It’s a theatre production. People have paid a lot to see it, maybe paid a lot to come into London for it and make it a day out even going so far as booking hotels if they’re not local and/or getting babysitters.
Why ruin it for them? They’re not oil executives or Government ministers. It’s not even like blocking a road which is a temporary inconvenience, you’ve just ruined an experience for normal people that they were looking forward to.
Here we go again with the tested and proven approach of enacting change by really doing your best to antagonise people with no power to change the thing, and who already statistically support the changing of said thing anyway.
“Just Stop Oil member Hannah Taylor said: “The show starts with Jean Valjean stealing a loaf of bread to feed his sister’s starving child. How long before we are all forced to steal loaves of bread? How long before there are riots on the streets?”
Wow, scraping the (oil) barrel now to justify the link between Les Mis and oil production.
Unfortunately Jonny Bairstow is currently in India for the Cricket World Cup
didn’t they protest some MP’s wedding a while back? i thought that was incredible. baffles me why they think annoying the country is going to do anything except demonise themselves.
they should be protesting tory scumbags and oil companies, not someone sitting at a fucking theatre show
Imagine saving for the theatre, train down to London, maybe a hotel. Then the show you’ve been looking forward to is interrupted by some idiots with a shit flag.
Theatre/event security needs upgrading. They shouldn’t have made it onto the stage.
I feel for the cast as well, the work they put into it. West end performers and audience will be fearing this happening at future shows, no doubt.
But they wear and use stuff made out of oil. Some of them physically drive a diesel/petrol car to do this.
And usually random places where people are doing no harm/paid to be there and shouldn’t have to get their time and money wasted.
Rant rant rant. More ranting. Fuck them.
How about protesting at I dunno, maybe, erm THE FUCKING TORY CONFERENCE!!!!!
I have heard such protestation
Every day for twenty years
Let’s have no more explanations
Save your breath and save your tears
My random conspiracy theory for the day:
If I were an oil Company, these would be the exact activists I would manufacture to delegitimaise climate activism in the eyes of the public. Their actions attack areas unrelated to their cause and make no sense except annoy the public and further climate skepticism.
Someone should do a deep dive on the backrounds of these ‘activists’ and most importantly who is organising and funding them.
Do you hear the people sing, singing the song of angry men
