The German government has apparently decided not to supply Ukraine with modern Taurus cruise missiles for the time being. Berlin said that a rapid delivery of the long-range weapon systems was not on the agenda at the moment, and that instead it was working on sending more air defense systems to Ukraine.
The decision was first reported Wednesday by the “Bild” newspaper. According to the report, Berlin had already confidentially informed the government in Kyiv that it could not expect to receive the Taurus systems in the short term.
As the “Bild” continues, Scholz had faced questions from the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee in an internal meeting last week. There, the chancellor had stressed that the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles are not comparable with British and French cruise missiles of the type Storm Shadow. According to the report, Britain and France directly contribute the geospatial data for the attack targets themselves and are also involved with their own personnel.
In addition to the issue of geospatial data and possible personnel, German government officials are also said to have expressed concern that Taurus cruise missiles could be used to strike the Kerch Bridge to the Crimean Peninsula. According to the information, there were talks with British government representatives in recent weeks to convince Germany of the delivery. During these talks, the German side had expressed concrete concern that the bridge in Crimea could be destroyed with the German weapon.
CDU foreign policy expert Roderich Kiesewetter criticized the chancellor’s stance. “With the cancellation of the Taurus delivery, Scholz confirms Germany’s total failure as a self-proclaimed leading nation for European security, and offends our partners like Great Britain and France, who are already supplying cruise missiles,” Kiesewetter told the “Bild” newspaper. With Taurus, Ukraine would have a chance to “cut off the Russian supply lines to Crimea and liberate Crimea, thus ending the war more quickly.”
For weapons, no does not mean no.
I think air defense is probably going to be needed more in the short term over the winter.
I cannot wrap my head around this: Ukraine is being attacked by a nation that swears it will destroy the west and Europe and even after being proven again and again that Russia IS NOT going to use nukes if we send Ukraine some weapons (because you know, it would mean the end of humanity) western nations still refuse to supply weapons to Ukraine. Why? What is going to happen? Russia is getting pissed of? I think they are already pretty pissed of.
Simultaneously, western powers ask themselves: Why is Ukraine struggling? Why can’t they win with Soviet era weapons against the very same Soviet era weapons?
I really hate this attitude. It makes no sense and only harms Ukraine. It also suggests that NATO might not be as willing to help each other if an actual attack on a member state occurs.
Verlucked? This is not Monte Carlo! This is Kirche!
I don’t know their plan, but it is better to not announce, nor leak, the decision until Ukraine starts using them, lest the enemy prepare better for them.
Considering the shit Germany pulled in Eastern Europe in collusion with the Russians, now would certainly be the time to put some of that right by getting Russian blood on German hands
Pearl clutching again Schultz you godamned coward
I suspect russian agents may have applied some kind of pressure.

So? How is that a problem. It is Ukranian territory, after all.
The German strategy seems to be to withhold new systems until the US commits to sending them, then to keep withholding until they actually arrive. Ukraine is the mouse in bed with two elephants.
